What is psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is talking and working with a trained, professional counselor.
This may occur on an individual basis, with people in your life important to you, or in a group setting. These discussions will focus on those areas of concern that brought you to counseling. These areas of concern may be problems with particular people, or problems at work, substance abuse problems, concerns about family members, or general feelings of dissatisfaction with your life. You may want to talk about things that are causing stress, unresolved grief, sadness, anxiety, or any life crisis. Adolescents often respond well to the therapeutic process because it allows them the opportunity of discussing their concerns with another adult who is not their parent.
Once the problematic situations have been identified, the counseling work really begins.
It can take many forms. I have chosen to use a combination of EFT (click here for info) and talk therapy to help you. EFT offers real solutions to your areas of concern. Talking brings us to a more exact and complete understanding of what those areas really are.
Commencing Therapy
On the first visit, we will discuss your areas of concern, what you'd like to change, and together we will begin to establish a plan of treatment. You will go over the counseling process to ensure that you as the client understand what is involved in counseling and what you can expect. |
